GUIDE TO MANDATORY MAINTENANCE

DAILY VISUAL INSPECTION

A routine inspection is the daily attention of resource persons to ensure that obvious faults and hazards on the face of the boulder are identified and corrected.

Inspection points: Cleanliness, loose climbing holds, obstacles in fall spaces, missing parts, obvious damage to the boulder, damage to mattresses and wear and tear on rental equipment.

Resource persons can be instructors, teachers, wall supervisors, or technical service staff.

OPERATIONAL INSPECTION (Quarterly)

An operational inspection is a more thorough review that checks the stability of the boulder and equipment, as well as wear on components.

The following specific areas should be inspected during operational inspections:

• Climbing holds: Always check for attachment, wear and defects. Replace damaged holds and retighten loose holds
• Overhanging wall elements

Operational inspections should be carried out at least every 3 months by a person with specific knowledge of the boulder and must be documented in the form of a logbook.

MAIN INSPECTION (annually)

Annual inspections shall be carried out to determine the overall safety level of the boulder, its foundation and attachment, primary and secondary structures, joints and the stability of the wall surfaces and the condition of the fall pad.

The main inspection shall be carried out by a competent person and documented in an inspection report.
