CLIMBING MATS
Fall protection mats or crash pads are used in connection with all climbing facilities. Especially during bouldering, the fall protection mat is a crucial safety factor. When we at Gubbies develop climbing walls, climbing towers, or bouldering walls, considerations about various options for fall protection are always an integral part of the project. If you need new climbing mats for existing climbing walls, we are also happy to create a customized solution for you.
FALL PROTECTION FOR CLIMBING FACILITIES
Climbing mattresses are made of foam and can be manufactured in different hardnesses depending on the purpose for which they are to be used. Fall mattresses are mainly used in indoor climbing and bouldering halls. For boulder walls, where you climb without safety equipment (harness and rope), the fall mattress is the only safety measure. Climbing and bouldering walls are designed with very different designs. Each individual wall is unique and therefore we always measure the wall and the room before we design the mattress. At Gubbies, we take care of measuring and design, while the actual production of the mattress takes place at one of our suppliers, who have many years of experience in developing mattresses specifically for climbing. In this way, you get a mattress that is both specially designed for your climbing wall and produced by the best in the field.
OUTDOOR FALL PROTECTION
There are different types of materials that can be used as fall surfaces in connection with playgrounds and outdoor activity areas. Fall protection sand or rubber chips are often used. At Gubbies, we supply fall protection that meets the European norms and standards in the field. You are always welcome to contact us if you need advice and guidance on choosing a fall base or if you would like calculations on how large an area a fall base should have for a given climbing facility. In most cases, fall protection is a large expense, which it is important to include in the overall budget. The price will always be determined by factors such as design, material selection and size.
Our climbing mattresses provide completely unique solutions for climbing and bouldering gyms, and they are designed, produced and assembled to comply with the following standards: EN12572-2, EN12503-1, EN12503-4 and NFP90-311
THE FOAM COMPOSITION
The types of foam used are designed for use in climbing and bouldering gyms. The mattresses are typically composed of two layers of foam, where the lower layer is soft and therefore optimally absorbs falls, while the upper layer of foam is of such a hard nature that you can walk on the mattress without sinking into it. You can also run on the mattresses, which makes a significant difference when, for example, the climbing facility is in conjunction with a parkour course, where running against obstacles is a large part of the activity. The combination of the hard, top layer of foam and the wear resistance of the vinyl means that you can easily set up a ladder on the mattress when you need to remove handles or screw new routes on the lower wall meters.
An optional option for the mattresses is to make the outer edge of extra hard foam. In this way, the edge of the mattress forms a sitting bench and at the same time you get a hard edge right where everyone steps on and off the mattress.
